In the beginning...

so....I've been reading blogs for a long time and thought I would like to try blogging myself so here we go. I hope it's like riding a bike- once you learn how it's easy. Unless you fall off!

Here is a picture of my second "first" quilt. It has lots of mistakes but I love it and I loved making it- it will go to live with my daughter and her roommates in their college dorm. (War Eagle!) She doesn't know it yet - I hope she likes it! Surprise! I'll be making her some pillows to go with.

Sorry it's not a very good picture. I'll work on that.

The fabric is two charm packs of Snippets by American Jane for Moda and some Kona cotton from a quilt store in NY state that I visited when i was home in the summer. The backing and orange polka dot border is from JoAnne's . Love those 40% off coupons. I think the stripey binding is from Hancock's. . The pattern is a coin quilt and I got the idea from a blog I love and follow, crazy mom quilts. You can see her quilt here.

I made the whole quilt on my "new" sewing machine - a 1949 Singer 15-91 (yes it's older than I am). I loved taking it apart and cleaning it and putting it back together again- with my husband's help - he took the motor off and worked on the wiring which still needs some help- like a working light. I'll post a picture of that later.

I made lots of mistakes on this quilt, had a few problems with the new old machine while I was machine quilting but I learned a lot and can't wait to start on the next one for daughter no. 2. It's a wonky log cabin. You'll see!
